Hot Off the Press Play Reading Series: Featuring the new play Love's Labors by Sheila Cowley about Charlie, a man who felt drawn to men all his life but kept his feelings buried. Performed in the lobby cabaret at 7 p.m. at American Stage in St. Petersburg. Talk-back with the author follows. Pay what you can at the door.

Akron/Family: With experimentalism, tribal drumming, war cries and even the tones of a creaky rocking chair, on occasion, they keep fans grinning — or guessing at 8 p.m. at Crowbar, 1812 N 17th St., Tampa. $11–$14.

Viva Las Vegas: The Capitol Classics Film Series brings this 1964 rom-com with Elvis Presley as a race car driver who enters the first Las Vegas Grand Prix. Screenings at 3 and 7 p.m. at Capitol Theatre in Clearwater. $5.

Season premiere: Dance Moms, 9 p.m., Lifetime: In case Toddlers & Tiaras didn't already ruin your faith in parenting, there's this one again.

Series premiere: 24 Hour Catwalk, 10 p.m., Lifetime: Four designers will compete for the chance to create their own fashion lines in one day. One very, very long day.

Dennis Miller's show at the Mahaffey on May 3 has been canceled because of scheduling conflicts.
