On your radar: See skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, watch a classic western, catch a tribute to Amy Winehouse or attend a ball

Tony Hawk: Two reasons to hit the Skatepark of Tampa today: The legendary skateboarder will bring his skills for the Birdhouse Skateboards MIA to NYC Tour, on the same afternoon as the U.S. Fingerboarding Championship Trials. (Fingerboarding is showing off tricks on teeny-tiny decks with your fingers — which has somehow evolved into a national sport.) The events start at 4 p.m. at 4215 E Columbus Drive. Free to watch, regular prices to skate.

High Noon: The 1952 western starring Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly and Thomas Mitchell is part of the Capitol Classics Film Series at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater, $6.

Amy Winehouse tribute: A show full of brass and beehives will honor the late retro-soul singer. Among the performers are multicultural standouts D'Visitors and lightning-quick lyricist Dynasty, at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hub in Tampa. Free. (813) 229-1553.

Date night

Gecko Ball: The theme for this year's whimsical extravaganza: the Lizard of Oz. This precursor to Gecko Fest (Sept. 3) includes larger-than-life decor, a buffet, live music by Kevin Wilder and His Yellow Brick Roadies, dancing and auctions at 7 p.m. Saturday at Peninsula Inn and Spa in Gulfport. $25. (727) 366-4086.

Liquid Desires: Formerly Z-Grapes, this tasting and art auction is the largest fundraiser for the Dalí Museum's Zodiac Group. Sample fine Spanish wines and craft beers and nosh on tapas from Cevíche before finishing off the night with a self-guided gallery tour. Starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at the St. Petersburg museum. $75, with discounts for museum members. (727) 823-3767.

Ben Vereen: The 64-year-old song-and-dance icon is coming to the Club at Treasure Island as part of its Broadway Legends series, and he certainly has the resume for it — Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Pippin, Wicked and many more. The show is 9 p.m. Saturday at 400 Treasure Island Causeway. $45. (727) 367-4511.

Kids and family

Dog swim day: Fossil Park pool in St. Petersburg is clearing out all the humans for the season — which means all the dogs can dive in. There are three sessions — 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. — on Saturday, but bring proof of current vaccinations. $5 per session for dogs, humans free. (727) 893-7732.
