Thursday's TipSheet

On your radar: Take in a Dalí flick, or check out the debut of a new local theater company

Dalí & Beyond Film Series: This free film series at the Dali Museum brings a treat for Robert Pattinson fans — Little Ashes, a Salvador Dalí biopic. But careful, Twilighters, because this is no tween flick. Pattinson plays a young bicurious Dalí embarking on his first foray into politics and art as a university student. The R-rated film is at 6 p.m. in the museum's lobby theater. If you want to see the galleries, admission is reduced on Thursdays to $10, at 1 Dalí Blvd. (Bayshore Drive SE and Fifth Avenue SE).

Rock the Park: Today it's Rocksteady@8, Mighty Mongo and Rebekah Pulley, and there will be food and beverages on site. Starts at 6:30 p.m. at Curtis Hixon Park, 600 N Ashley Drive, Tampa. Free.

'Death and the Maiden;: Ariel Dorfman's political play, which sounds more like a psychological thriller, marks the debut of a new local company, a Simple Theatre, opening at 7 tonight at the Studio@620 in St. Petersburg. $25, $20 students and seniors. (727) 895-6620. It runs through Sept. 11.

John Heffron: The winner of the second season of Last Comic Standing brings his guy-centric comedy today through Sunday. See him at 8 p.m. at Improv Comedy Theater, 1600 E Eighth Ave., Tampa. $17–$20.

Kids and family

Kite Flying: To kick off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, 500 free kites donated by Sweetbay will be given away to kids at Curtis Hixon Park before the Rock the Park concert. Mayor Bob Buckhorn is scheduled to fly one, and there will be bins of hoops, balls and other equipment for kids to play with from 5 to 7 p.m. at 600 N Ashley Drive, Tampa. Free.

To watch

Beyond Scared Straight, 10 p.m., A&E: One teen yells back at an inmate, while another mouths off enough that a prisoner yanks him into his cell. This doesn't seem to be scaring them all that much.

Suits, 10 p.m., USA: Harvey's district attorney mentor wants his help when he is being investigated. Surely there's no ethical concerns about that, right?
