Plan your weekend
Oscar night
2012 Academy Awards The Tampa Theatre will host its annual Oscar Night fete complete with paparazzi encounters on the red carpet on Sunday. This party is one of only 49 officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. It includes a large-screen viewing of the Academy Awards telecast. Take the kids
Nuclear Cowboyz Freestyle Chaos For the uninitiated, Nuclear Cowboyz is a show that combines the sport of freestyle motocross with the plot of, well, a B movie. Catch them this weekend at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa. Tickets start at $10 for ages 2 to 15 and $20 for adults. (813) 301-2500.
Comedy
D.L. Hughley The comic has proven his staying power on television, appearing in The Hughleys and starring in several of his own talk shows, including CNN's D.L. Hughley Breaks the News. He may be an Original King of Comedy, but Hughley isn't abdicating the throne any time soon. He performs at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday, 7:30 and 10 p.m. Saturday, 7 p.m. Sunday at the Improv, 1600 E Eighth Ave., Tampa. $30. (813) 864-4000. improvtampa.com.
Road hogs
Easy Rider: The Ride Back Jack Nicholson won't be in town, but you can still catch the local premiere of the film that explores the family of Wyatt Williams, the character made famous by Peter Fonda in the original Easy Rider. It's part of the Easy Rider Bike Fest, where you can see new and custom cycles, live entertainment, exhibits and vendors. 3 p.m. Saturday. $8.50-$18.50. 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre, 4802 U.S. 301 N, Tampa. (813) 740-2446.
Food
Flan Fest and Fiesta Day These two festivals turn Ybor City into a yummy party Saturday. The flantastic caramel custard takes center stage with flans to sample, a recipe contest and a flan-eating contest in Centennial Park. At the same time, there's Fiesta Day, about the Cuban, German, Italian and Spanish immigrants who made the cigars and also made the city the spicy mix it is today. There's an arts marketplace, lots of ethnic food and, of course, music for dancing in the streets in and around the Italian Club, 1731 E Seventh Ave. Both start at 11 a.m. Saturday. Free admission.
