311 One of summer's musical staples, a 311 tour, arrives at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre in Tampa. The cross-pollinating reggae-rock act brings along like-minded cloud-music-makers Slightly Stoopid and vintage reggae-soul act The Aggrolites. $24-$68. (813) 740-2446.

Closetland In an unnamed totalitarian country in an unspecified future, a woman who writes children's books has been arrested. Her alleged crime: sneaking subversive messages into her seemingly innocuous fantasy stories. The production by Jobsite Theater runs through July 29 at the Straz Center. Art

Cool Art Show Air conditioning opened up Florida, and is the reason it's now so populated. It was also the impetus 24 years ago to start the Cool Art Show, running on Saturday and Sunday at the St. Petersburg Coliseum. Now featuring about 80 artists, it runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. 535 Fourth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Free parking and admission. No pets. pava-artists.org.

Recycled couture

Trashion Fashion ARTpool's fifth annual Trashion Fashion Art Party and Fashion Show is a hip, funky event in which fashion designers create wearable artwork from recycled, unorthodox materials. The popular event gets started at 8 p.m. Saturday, with a runway show at 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day of. $45 VIP seating. ARTpool Gallery, 2030 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Take the kids

$5 Day at the Zoo Everyone gets into Lowry Park Zoo for $5 on Sunday. They do this a couple times a year, and you better get there early, because you're not the only one who thinks this is an awesome deal. Wear breathable clothes and water shoes so you can cool off in the zoo's splash zone when the heat gets too tough. The zoo is open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1101 W Sligh Ave., Tampa.
