St. Patrick's Day events

St. Patrick's Day is on a Wednesday this year. But who wants to party on a Wednesday? Luckily, there are events that start this weekend.


SAT-SUN: Bay Area Renaissance Festival

The continuing festival goes Irish this weekend with Highland Games, pipe and drum performances, Irish dancers, green beer, Celtic vendors. Plus the replica of a 16th century village has the usual entertainment on multiple stages, street theater, live armored contact jousting, human chess matches and fire-eaters. SAT: Rough Riders St. Patrick's Night Parade

Floats, beads and more with krewes from across Florida. This year U.S. Navy Sailors, Sea Cadets and the Navy Marching Band serve as the grand marshals. The family-friendly parade starts at Nick Nuccio Parkway and Seventh Avenue in Ybor City and moves down Seventh to 20th Street. 8 p.m. Free. (813) 248-1898.

SAT: Palm Harbor Irish Street Festival

The downtown historic district of Old Palm Harbor offers indoor and outdoor entertainment, food, vendors. Entertainment includes Guinness the Duo (noon-4 p.m.), Cristi Vale (4-8 p.m.) and Greg Billings Band (8-11 p.m.) outdoors; and Peter Robinson (noon-5 p.m.), Scratch N' Dent (5-9 p.m.), Irish Step Dancers (5 p.m.), City of Dunedin Pipe Band (5:30 p.m.) and Claiborne Shepherd (9 p.m.-2 a.m.) inside. SAT: Spring Break St. Patrick's Pre-Party

A tent party to warm up for the big day with corned beef and cabbage, burgers, Irish drinks and live entertainment by Cellfish (4-8 p.m.), Four Star Riot (8 p.m.-midnight), Shark from 97x Rock (5-7 p.m.) and a "Green" Bikini Contest (9 p.m.). 4 p.m.-3 a.m. O'Keefe's Tavern, 1219 S Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater. $5 (food and drink extra). WED: All Day St. Patty's Party, Three Birds Tavern

Start the day with an authentic Irish breakfast and tunes from 98 Rock's Big Rig. Entertainment includes Irish dancers, pipe performance and live music by Roctopus (8 p.m.-midnight). WED: Garrison Goes Green

The Rough Riders load their Teddy Roosevelt float onto a barge and spray an environmentally friendly dye into the Garrison Channel. Members of the Rough Riders Navy throw beads to the crowd. 6-9 p.m. Channelside District, Tampa. Free. (813) 466-5338.

WED: St. Patrick's Day Party, the Pub

WED: Dunedin St. Patrick's Day Street Festival

Main Street comes alive with Irish festivities including entertainment by Noel Cooney, Jeff Glover, the Dunedin Pipe Band, Irish Buskers, dancers and more. WED: St. Patrick's Day Tent Party, O'Keefe's

Annual tent party with corned beef and cabbage, burgers, Irish drinks, dancers, drummers, continuous bagpipers, area art vendors and live entertainment by Hooligans (11 a.m.-3 p.m.), Pooka (4-8 p.m.), Black Honkeys (9 p.m.-2 a.m.) and Spice from 102.5 Classic Rock (7-9 p.m.). 11 a.m.-2 a.m. O'Keefe's Tavern, 1219 S Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater. $5, $10 after 7 p.m. (food and drink separate). WED: St. Patty's Day Party, Tank's Tap Room

WED: St. Patrick's Day Party, the Dubliner

Kicks off with a huge tent and Irish buffet featuring fish and chips, shepherd's pie and sausages imported from Ireland (11 a.m.-3 p.m., $9.95). Live music, Irish dance with a bagpipe group and games. 11 a.m.-3 a.m. The Dubliner Irish Pub in Citrus Park, 12836 Henderson Road, Tampa. $5 cover starting at 4 p.m. includes free Guinness, Harp or Smithwicks.


TODAY: Paul Wilborn and the Blue Roses

SAT: Ceilidh

FRI: Rough Riders St. Patrick's Weekend Street Car Hop

Your ticket lets you ride the TECO Line Streetcar System, getting on and off as often as you want to enjoy food and drink from Tampa's hot spots. Streetcar operates until 2 a.m. 6 p.m.-midnight. Various stops from Ybor to Channelside District , Tampa. $35, $20 Rough Rider members. (813) 248-1898.

FRI: We're All a Little Irish

FRI: Shamrock-n-Run

St. Patrick's Day-themed running events include 5K (7 p.m.), 1.5-mile walk (7:05 p.m.) and the Clover Kids Fun Run (8:15 p.m.). Held in conjunction with the Sunset Sounds in Ulmer Park with live music by Buffalo Strange. SUN: Shamrock Classic

A flat, winding course in distances of 10K, 5K and a 1-mile fun walk/run. St. Puppy's Day

The pet-friendly event kicks off with an Irish brunch. Dogs can roam the fenced festival ground, with music, Irish dancers, a Puppy Costume Parade, "Most Irish Dog" contest, adoptable pets and more.
