Although he's losing battery mates James Shields and Wade Davis to the Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher and Cy Young award winner David Price is gaining the key to the city of Tampa.
He'll be honored Tuesday during a special ceremony at 2 p.m. at City Hall Plaza (courtyard behind the Tampa Municipal Office Building), 306 E Jackson St.
Price, a resident of Tampa, will be presented a key by Mayor Bob Buckhorn.
The Cy Young Award is given annually to the best pitchers in Major League Baseball. Price is the first Tampa Bay Rays player to win the award.
The public is invited to City Hall to celebrate David Price Day, which will be proclaimed by Buckhorn in honor of this achievement.
Price, as usual, had some funny reactions on his @DAVIDprice14 Twitter account when the news was first announced Friday:
• lol that is pretty cool .. every tuesday??
• With the key to the city, Tampa, I'll be opening chic fil a on Sundays!!!! You all can thank me later
The city of Tampa Twitter account (@CityofTampa) also got in on the action, tweeting Monday: Hey @DAVIDprice14: The Mayor also has a "Key to the Dog Park" for Astro. Can you bring him along tomorrow? (Please RT @RaysBaseball fans!)
