Sure, there are ticketed events around town over the next few days, such as comic actor Eddie Izzard's sold-out shows at the Tampa Theatre (for the details on that and other upcoming concerts, see Page 26). But this week, we're all about easing the burden on your wallet. So take a look at some other events that are going on this weekend. They're all worth your time, even at the bargain price of FREE!
YOUTH GONE WILD
FM-102.5 "The Bone" presents Cowhead Live 3, a free all-day event with a Guitar Hero contest, lots of giveaways and a free concert by headliners Skid Row (minus Sebastian Bach, unfortunately, but hey, at least the price is right). OH NO! GAMERA WILL DESTROY US ALL!
Pass the popcorn, it's free movie time. You can see the classic sci-fi horror flick Gamera at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Beach Theatre, 315 Corey Ave., St. Pete Beach. Or you can go for classic comedy with a Laurel and Hardy comedy short — there will be free screenings of The Finishing Touch, Angora Love, Be Big and Brats, hosted by local chapter of Sons of the Desert at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pinellas Park Library, 7770 52nd St., Pinellas Park. STOP, SHOP AND STROLL
The New Port Richey Shop 'N' Stroll on Saturday celebrates the fruits of the summer, including melons, berries, corn and more with sidewalk sales by merchants and trash-to-treasures vendors. There's also art, crafts and horse-drawn carriage rides from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Main Street and Grand Boulevard and nearby area. Free.
DRINKING AND WALKING
For a nice free date night, take a stroll at the Broadway Wine Walk on Friday in Dunedin. Stroll shops, sip wines and enjoy live music from 5 to 8 p.m. in the 700 block of Broadway in Dunedin.
THOSE CRAFTY DEVILS
Head down to Sarasota this weekend for the annual St. Armands Craft Festival, where you'll see works of pottery, woodworking and jewelry by more than 100 crafters. To get to St. Armands Circle, take Interstate 75 to exit 38, then go west to U.S. 41 N, then take that until you come to John Ringling Boulevard. Downtown Live After Five returns to Tampa this Friday for an end-of-the-season blowout. Alcohol sales benefit Gasparilla Film Festival, but if you make your way to N Franklin Street from at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. you can catch a free concert by the soul-infused folk rock band Shane Meade & The Sound just outside the doors of the Fly Bar and Restaurant, 1202 N Franklin St. in downtown Tampa.
OUT AT THE MOVIES
The New Port Richey Public Library presents Reel Pride, 15 free films for its annual GLBT film fest. The movies start at 6 and 8 p.m. every Saturday in June and include selections for a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered audience. GET MIXED UP IN ART, FASHION
Cutting edge fashion and a live studio photographer make up this month's Tampa Art and Fashion Mixer. It's for kids ages 8-17, and in addition to the flight, they can learn about airplanes and safety from pilots. Bring the kids for a free bug hunt at the Insect Safari Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Brooker Creek Preserve. The BOWser Abode Tour makes going to the doghouse look like an episode of MTV Cribs. The 2008 Rescue Rally and Celebration is a touring display of nine designer doghouses created by local architects, builders, artists and designers. It's now at the Seminole Mall, where doghouses will be on display through June 26. The celebration includes a "Tricky Dog Show," as well as animal rescue groups on site and pet CPR demonstrations.
