Gospel diva unleashes her voice
At Sharon Scott's Palladium Praise Party, the actress and singer (and St. Petersburg native) turns on her inner gospel diva for a 4 p.m. show at the Palladium, 253 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Bulls vs. Hurricanes
The game between the USF Bulls and Miami Hurricanes Saturday is a big one, pitting a relatively new program against a national powerhouse. The game starts at 3:30 p.m., but the tailgating starts much earlier. And because the game is at Raymond James Stadium, it's one of the few NCAA events where you can buy beer. Paddle at the Pier
Work off that Thanksgiving feast at the Pilgrim Paddle, a relay-style stand-up paddleboard race for teams of two people, with each member completing a circuit along the Pier in St. Petersburg. Registration is at 8 a.m. Saturday, with a paddlers meeting at 9 a.m. Relays begin at 9:15 a.m. (coed) and 10:15 a.m. (men's and women's). Jazz fans get a treat
At the USF Monday Night Jazz, the university's jazz studies department invites acclaimed musicians to this top-notch underground jazz night. Veteran 'Traveler' editor wanders this way
The public is invited to a free talk Thursday by National Geographic Traveler editor Keith Bellows, who visits the University of Tampa on Thursday. Under Bellows, Traveler has won more than 50 Lowell Thomas awards for excellence in travel journalism and has twice been nominated for a National Magazine Award. He is the author of The Canuck Book and will soon release his latest book 100 Places That Will Change Your Child's Life. He'll lecture about his global experiences and the importance of travel in education at 4 p.m. in Reeves Theater, 401 W Kennedy Blvd. Free.
Drinking and skating
The Skatepark of Tampa is drinking for the kids. The skater haven presents the second annual 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall, where skateboarding artists create a bottle of beer to be sold in the art show.
