FRIDAY-SUNDAY
Offbeat Stomp makes stop
Sixteen years after its U.S. debut, Stomp is still all about rhythm, but from the musical stylings of a junk closet. The rambunctious show pulls a bunch of items that belong in a tool shed and wields them as percussion: matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hub caps. There are two new routines that use props like tractor-tire inner tubes and paint cans. Shows are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Mahaffey Theater in St. Pete. $24-$54. FRIDAY
Parole for jail's plants
A couple of times a year, the inmates at the Falkenberg Road Jail in Tampa offer the fruits of their labor from the jail's horticultural program, one that's part job training, part cost-cutter, putting inmates to work in a greenhouse. They grow a variety of ornamental flowers, shrubs and trees and even hot peppers that the inmates have turned into their own hot sauce. The Plant Sale at the Jail is from 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Arrive early for best selection, at 520 Falkenberg Road in Tampa.
SATURDAY
Dads make the pros

SUNDAY
Earth Day gets a do-over
Ironically, nature's wicked rainstorm last weekend canceled the Earth Day celebration at Lowry Park in Tampa. Pet-friendly. Free parking and admission. Visit online at florida.sierraclub.org/ tampabay.
Look at our earliest artist
As part of its Florida Conversations series, the Tampa Bay History Center features author Miles Harvey, who wrote Painter in a Savage Land: The Strange Saga of Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues, the First European Artist in North America. The artist lived from 1533 to 1588, and his depictions of Native American and colonial life are of extraordinary historical importance. Here Harvey talk at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water St., Tampa. Free. (813) 228-0097. tampabayhistorycenter.org.
