SATURDAY

Turn the hoses on the kids

Normally a library is a place for shushing and quietly reading in a corner, but on Saturday the East Lake Community Library is hosting the East Lake Fire Department to give the kids an End of Summer Hosedown. Starting at 10:30 a.m., kids can splash in the spray at 4125 East Lake Road, Palm Harbor. Free. (727) 773-2665.

Grab your fishing poles

Teach the kids to wrangle a whopper (or maybe learn to tell some tales about the one that got away) at the Family Fishing Fun Day at 8 a.m. Saturday at Walsingham Park, 12615 102nd Ave. N, Largo. Children ages 14 and younger fish for prizes in categories including first fish, the first three largest fish, smallest fish and multiple catches. Poles and bait provided. Meet at shelter No. 3. Free. (727) 319-8343.

Dramatic yard sale

Get an early jump on your Halloween costume. Gorilla Theatre is cleaning out its closets and selling theatrical props, costumes, men's and women's clothing, shoes and other theater-related items from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 4419 N Hubert Ave., Tampa. The sale supports improvements to the theater. Visit gorillatheatre.com or call (813) 879-2914.

Raise your glass and sing

Savor the flavors of local restaurants at Vino, Java & Jazz, an end-of-summer soiree with wine and spirits samples at the Florida Aquarium. Tour exhibits while musicians play cool jazz from 7 to 11 p.m. at 701 Channelside Drive. Tickets are $75 in advance and $95 at the door. Proceeds benefit Easter Seals Florida. (813) 273-4000, flaquarium.org.

Roll, smash for a cause

Pull out your legwarmers for '80s night at the roller derby as the Switchblade Sisters battle the Cigar City Mafia at 7:30 p.m. at the Skateplex of Temple Terrace, 5313 E Busch Blvd. The event benefits foster teens from the Heart Gallery. Donate purses, journals, pens, hair and nail products, or makeup to get a $2 discount off the $12 admission at the door. Call (813) 989-2100 or visit heartgallerytampabay.org.

SUNDAY

Walk among the gators
