What to do today
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Minnesota Twins Who would have thought back in March that the Rays would be the hottest ticket in town halfway through September? After making their way past the Red Sox, tonight they face the Twins in the last homestand of the season. The Rays could clinch their first playoff appearance in team history as early as this weekend. And unlike the series against Boston, don't expect the Trop to be overrun with fans of the opposing team. This time it might even feel like a home game. There are still plenty of tickets available, so no excuses. 7:10 p.m. Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg. Tickets start at $9 in advance, $11 at the door. (888) 326-7297. tampabayrays.com.
Party Like A Film Star Look-Alike Contest Speaking of the Rays, coach Joe Maddon will be a little bit busy tonight, but if he entered a film star look-alike contest, our money is on him going as Spencer Tracy from Look Who's Coming to Dinner. The glasses are a bit more modern, and Maddon is usually smiling rather than scowling, but we think it's pretty close. Think you can pass for a movie star? Stop by this fundraiser for the Independent's Film Festival 2008, which runs through Sunday. Tickets for tonight's party are $30. 8 p.m. to mdnight. Education Channel Annex, 1221 W Cass St., Tampa. (813) 254-2253. indiefilmfest.us.
