Things to do Friday, Sept. 12

Ribfest: With a lineup of bands like Styx and Asia, this year's Ribfest in St. Petersburg might consider renaming its "Retrofest." The annual congregation of barbecue worshippers reconvenes Nov. 14-16 at Vinoy Park. The fundraising event spotlights smoked food from around the world, along with a full agenda of classic rocks acts. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Here's a quick rundown of the headlining performers: Styx (Friday, Nov. 14); The Doobie Brothers, Gator Country (Saturday, Nov. 15); and Asia (Sunday, Nov. 16).

Dali Concert Series: Rebekah Pulley may have just released her latest album, but tonight she channels Lou Reed and Nico as Venus In Furs, the all-female tribute to the Velvet Underground, performs at the final special event of the exhibit Women: Dali's View. If you want to blend in with the crowd, be sure to wear extremely large sunglasses and as much black as possible. 8 p.m. Dali Museum, 1000 Third St. S, St. Petersburg. $10, $8 seniors/students, $5 Dali members. (727) 823-3767.

USF Bulls vs. Kansas Jayhawks: Sure USF-Kansas is a huge game. But bigger than USC-Ohio State? That's what the folks at the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award (for best quarterback) believe, as they've designated Friday's Bulls-Jayhawks showdown as their "Marquee Matchup" for this weekend. Junior quarterbacks Matt Grothe and Todd Reesing are both O'Brien candidates, and the winner will have a head start in the Heisman race. Can't get a ticket? Stop by for some good times tailgating and cheering on the Bulls. 8 p.m. Raymond James Stadium, 4201 N Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. $10-$40.

Green Room Volume 4 CD Release Party: The latest edition of alternative rock station 97X's all-acoustic compilation disc, Green Room Volume 4, will drop tonight and the station is giving away more than 100 free copies. The Green Room hosts intimate one-on-one interviews and performances in the 97X studio by some of the hottest bands. Volume 4 features performances from Rise Against, Fall Out Boy, Coheed & Cambria, Taking Back Sunday, Paramore and more.

WOW, WE'RE HAPPENING: Get your weekend started off right with one of the 150 other events going on today. Find all the details at

Rock the Reception: 10:30 p.m., TLC. This show about couples getting married trying to learn complicated, show-stopping dance routines would be much better if they'll all just learned the zombie dance from the Thriller video.

Don't Forget the Lyrics!: 9 p.m., Fox (season premiere). Because watching people forget the words to the songs they're singing simply isn't maddening enough when they're the passengers in your car.

• Beach Theatre is having a special showing of Woodstock at 8 p.m. today and CSNY Deja Vu at 7 and 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Information in Thursday's Weekend section is incorrect.

• A tasting of wines from Strong Tower Vineyard & Winery will be held 4:30-7:30 p.m. today at Willow Bend Liquors, 23044 State Road 54, at Willow Bend Shopping Center, Lutz. Wednesday's Taste section listed another location.

Shrinking restaurant choices. Downtown St. Petersburg has seen one new food venture go dark and a major restaurant take a hiatus for September. Find the details at
