Things to do in Tampa Bay for Dec. 1

97X Next Big Thing: The annual daylong show returns to its more festival-like roots at its new home, Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg. Rise Against, Bush and Fun., above, lead this year's lineup. Gates open at 10 a.m. at 501 Fifth Ave. NE in St. Petersburg. $60 at the gate.

$5 Day at MOSI: Everyone gets in to the Museum of Science and Industry 's galleries, including more than 450 interactive exhibits, for $5 today. Museum opens at 9 a.m. at 4801 E Fowler Ave. in Tampa. (813) 987-6000.

Idina Menzel: The Tony Award-winning Broadway star of Wicked and Rent performs as part of the Straz's 25th Anniversary Gala at 8 p.m. at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. Tickets start at $39.50. (813) 229-7827.

Paul Reiser: The standup comedian known for long-running '90s sitcom Mad About You and movies like Diner performs at 9 p.m. at the Club at Treasure Island, 400 Treasure Island Causeway, Treasure Island. $40.

Snowfest and Santa Parade: December brings holiday festivals on each side of the bay. In St. Petersburg, the day starts with the Santa Parade at Central Avenue and Fifth Street. Then, 65 tons of snow are blown into North Straub Park, with family activities like skating, toboggan rides and visits with Santa, starting at 10 a.m. at Fifth Avenue NE and Bayshore Drive. $5 wristband. (727) 893-7441. Tampa's Santa Fest transforms Curtis Hixon Park into a winter wonderland with Santa visits, holiday entertainment, games and more. It's at 11 a.m. at 600 N Ashley Drive in Tampa. Free. (813) 966-5505. The Downtown Tampa Holiday Parade steps off at Morgan Street and Kennedy Boulevard and ends at Ashley Drive and Cass Street starting at 11 a.m.
