Things to do in Tampa Bay for Jan. 28

Gasparilla: It's only the biggest party of the year. A Pirate Street Festival kicks off the day at 10 a.m. and runs all day near Curtis Hixon Park. Thousands will line the Tampa waterfront about 11:30 a.m. to watch the pirate-draped Jose Gasparilla ship sail into Hillsborough Bay. Then the pirates get down to serious business, tossing thousands of beads in the parade along Bayshore Boulevard starting at 2 p.m. Free.

Kumquat Festival: This charming festival is devoted to the tiny sweet-tart fruit with pies, cookies, ice cream and more. Plus crafts, car show, farmer's market and kids activities. Starts at 9 a.m. in downtown Dade City. Free admission.

Date Night

Zac Brown Band: The 2010 Grammy winners for best new artist top off Gasparilla day with their own brand of Southern rock and country-folk at 7 p.m. at 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheatre in Tampa. $31.50-$57. (813) 740-2446 .

Forbidden Tampa Bay: This tongue-in-cheek comedy show lampoons local news of the day at 11 p.m. at American Stage Theatre Company in St. Petersburg. Pay what you can at the door. (727) 823-7529.

Kids and family

Touch A Truck and Florida Clown Day: Kids can climb on an assortment of vehicles while more than 100 clowns from the Uptown Clown Alley entertain the family at 11 a.m. at Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive, Largo. Free admission; $5 activity wristbands. (727) 587-6740, ext. 5014.

Pet Tail Gate Party: Bring your pet to this party with dog relays, canine agility tests, music, Frisbee toss and a fire pit with s'mores at 3 p.m. at SPCA Tampa Bay, 9099 130th Ave. N, Largo. Free admission, $1 per activity. (727) 586-3591.
