Things to do in Tampa Bay for July 24

Metrocon: The celebration of Japanese popular entertainment continues with anime, manga (comics), music, costumed fight sequences, outdoor fire shows and video games. Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin St., Tampa. 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. today, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. See metroconventions.com for a schedule. $10-$55.

Adult Mud Wars: Today it's the adults' turn to play dirty. Jump into the mud pit to compete in a ball crawl, football, tug-of-war, belly bumpers and an obstacle course. It's $350 for teams of 8-10 with no fewer than three women. All 18 or older. It starts at 11 a.m. at Spa Beach at the Pier approach in St. Petersburg.

KIDS AND FAMILY

Bert's Birthday at Busch Gardens: Celebrate Bert's birthday at a breakfast and a lunch party at the Sesame Street Safari of Fun zone at Busch Gardens in Tampa. Characters will be out for a meet and greet. It's $18 for adult breakfast, $15 for children, plus park admission. Lunch is $23 for adults, $17 for children. 1-888-800-5447.

Splash's treasure hunt: Pirates swim with the kids, shoot cannons and pass out beads. Free hot dogs while they last. Treasure hunts divided by age group and open to kids 10 and younger. $8, $5 residents, $6 nonresidents with card. Silly Bandz giveaway: The first 1,500 kids at the Tampa Bay Storm vs. Alabama Vipers game get a 12-pack of limited edition Football Silly Bandz. Included with game ticket. Game is 7:30 p.m. at the St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa. (813) 301-6500.
