Avril Lavigne: The pop-punk phenom gives a free concert at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg after the Rays vs. Cleveland game, which starts at 4:10 p.m. Tickets are $17-$275.

Brooksville Blazin' Butts-n-Brisket Fourth Annual BBQ Competition: This contest features professional barbecue teams from throughout the Southeast, as well as nonprofessional "backyard" teams starting at 9 a.m. Music to eat by provided by country music artist Brian Chytka. Free admission. Tom Varn Park, 306 Darby Lane, Brooksville. (352) 540-3830.

Bands on the Sand: Bring blankets and chairs to the beach behind the Bilmar for some stellar local acts: Cope, Steve Arvey Horn Band, Rebekah Pulley and the Reluctant Prophets, Rebel Pride, Sunza Beaches and Shoeless Soul. Arts and crafts vendors and a fireworks finale at 10 p.m. It starts at noon at 10650 Gulf Blvd., Treasure Island. Free.

Taproot: The alt-punk-metal quartet burst into the scene in 1998 with the help of Limp Bizkit's frontman Fred Durst. Show is 7 p.m. at State Theatre in St. Petersburg. $15.

Fallen Officer Charity Flag Football Game: Watch the Tampa Bay Sentinels take on the St. Petersburg Police Department's Green Machine in a flag football game to help the families of officers Yaslowitz, Crawford and Baitinger at 1 p.m. at Al Lang Field, 180 Second Ave. SE, St. Petersburg. $5, kids free under 5.

SERIES PREMIERE From Spain With Love, 9:30 p.m., Cooking Channel: Food writer Annie Sibonney travels through Spain and tries all the delicacies.

Revolver Golden Gods Awards, 10 p.m., VH1 Classic: There are no more Saturday Night Live episodes to be disappointed with, so we'll watch Alice Cooper, Sebastian Bach and Duff McKagan remind us that any show in which Chris Jericho is the host has to be at least mildly entertaining.
