Things to do in Tampa Bay for Sept. 29

Free Museum Day: From Lakeland to Sarasota, a slew of Tampa Bay area museums offer free admission in conjunction with the national Smithsonian magazine event. Sign up for a ticket for two free admissions to one museum at smithsonianmag.com. Also, some locations in Pinellas County are opening their doors for free from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of a local Arts Alive Museum Day. Plus, the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa holds its $5 Day.

Fiona Apple: After a life in semi-hiding these past years, Apple has returned with her acclaimed album The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do. This should be an interesting show at 8 p.m. at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. $51.50-$75.50. (727) 791-7400.

Celebrate Oktoberfest: This annual fest has German beer and cuisine, a parade, keg tapping ceremony, German folk dancers and music by Peter and Edith. It's at 5 p.m. at German American Society of Pinellas County, 8098 66th St. N, Pinellas Park. $6; children 12 and under free. (727) 238-8201.

Anjelah Johnson: The former MADtv regular was an Internet sensation when her video of Bon Qui Qui, the rude fast food worker, went viral with more than 55 million YouTube hits. See her at 7:30 p.m. at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. Tickets start at $32.50. (813) 229-7827.

Kids and family

Super Boat National Championship and Festival: This show and competition features powerboats that hit speeds of 200 mph, with activities on Clearwater Beach and in downtown Clearwater. Today there's a seafood festival, fireworks and the Clearwater Star Spectacular with music by Boulder County Conspiracy, the Belloise Brothers Band and Michael Dan Ehmig. It's at 10 a.m. at Coachman Park, 301 Drew St., Clearwater. Spectators free; $5-$20 viewing available from Pier 60. Find schedule at clearwatersuperboat.com.

SERIES PREMIERE Call the Midwife, 8 p.m., PBS A woman becomes a midwife in 1950s London, which is sure to draw comparisons to Mad Men, except with even more pregnant moms smoking and drinking.
