Things to do in Tampa Bay the week of May 31

Memorial Day: Pay your respects at 10 a.m. today at the Bay Pines VA Memorial Day Ceremony, with WFLA chief meteorologist Steve Jerve as emcee and speaker Rep. C.W. Bill Young. There will be music, firing salute and taps at 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg. Free. Or raise a glass to the unofficial start of summer at parties later this afternoon at Gators Cafe & Saloon (12754 Kingfish Drive, Treasure Island) and Shephard's Beach Resort (601 S Gulfview Blvd., Clearwater; $10-$15).

Backstreet Boys: There are only four now, but that's enough to take you on a '90s time warp. The show is 7:30 tonight at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater. Tickets start at $52.50. (727) 791-7400.

Meet the Survivors: You love to hate him, now you can meet him. Russell Hantz, a finalist in the recently concluded Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with Natalie White, who beat Russell to win Survivor: Samoa. Rock the Park: This monthly, year-round music series at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in Tampa launches at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. You'll hear eclectic funksters the Bird Street Players, along with contemporary pop up-and-comers 10th Concession and R&B artist Alex "LX" Harris. Free.

Kids and family

Family night for 'Mary Poppins:' Wednesday is Broadway Family Night for the magical musical, offering a free children's (12 and under) ticket with a full-priced adult ticket (available in balcony/gallery only by phone or ticket window) and preshow activities. This is the last week for the show, which closes Sunday at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. $18.50-$83. (813) 229-7827.

Taste of Pinellas: Nosh from 50 restaurants while listening to a range of music, from classic Huey Lewis and the News (Friday) to country's Martina McBride (Saturday) to teen pop star Mitchel Musso (Sunday).
