What to do
Alanis Morissette: Don't expect her to hold anything back. Her new album, Flavors of Entanglement, is as searing and soul-baring as her first. 8 p.m. Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. $47.75-$67.75. rutheckerdhall.com.
Rock, Rib and Ride Fest: With a rib-tasting competition, charity poker run, a celebrity fashion show, a wine and food gala, and a women's business expo, if you can't have a good time here, there's really no hope for you. The festival runs through Sunday, but the highlight should certainly be Saturday night's performance by the original masters of the cowbell: Blue Oyster Cult. 4-11 p.m. Florida State Fairgrounds. $8 for ages 12 and older, $5 for children ages 3 to 11 and kids 2 and younger are free. floridastatefair.com.
Howl-O-Scream: Busch Gardens has a deal on Thursday nights for groups of four or more who want to get the poop scared out of them for only $20 each. Tickets are normally in the $40- to $55-range depending on the online or resident deals you can get. But keep in mind, this scary place is most definitely not for little kids. Teens and older, however, love the idea of running around from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. (and there's no school this Friday for Pinellas and Hillsborough students). All the rides are open, but there's no costumes allowed. The deal is available tonight and on Oct. 23 and 30. howl-o-scream.com.
