To do today

Mixed media show C. Emerson Fine Arts' "Film Lingual II" is an exploration of photography, video and hybrids of the two mediums. In many instances, the medium itself delivers the message, like in Nancy Cervenka's sculptural use of 35mm film. The gallery is at 909 Central Ave. , St. Petersburg. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. (727) 898-6068; c-emersonfinearts.com.

Tampa Bay Rays The Cleveland Indians are in the Trop tonight, pitting Tribe fans against newly energized Rays fanatics. The game is at 7:10 p.m. Tickets start at $9 in advance, $11 at door. Toll-free (888) 326-7297. raysbaseball.com.

Chris McCarty This popular Gainesville artist plays acoustic-based pop with heavy seasonings of funk, reggae, jazz and hip-hop. Mark Gaignard, the former singer for the popular Gainesville band Big Sky, opens with a solo set at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road in Tampa. (813) 977-6474.

Catch 22 The New Jersey ska masters will be blowing their horns at 7 p.m. at the State Theatre, 687 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Tickets are $12. (727) 895-3045.

Coming up

Low-Impact Landscapes We hope this class on creating a sustainable landscape using native plants means no more yard work until the weather cools. The Pinellas Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society is bringing landscape architect Tom Levin to the Moccasin Lake Nature Park, 2750 Park Trail Lane in Clearwater on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Suggested donation: $1 per person. Phone (727) 462-6024.

Coheed and Cambria The high-concept prog rockers do more than produce themed albums. The band has created a sci-fi saga that has fans hooked on the story of a universe-destroying virus. See them at 7 p.m. Thursday at Jannus Landing, but don't tell us how it ends. $24. (727) 896-2276.
