Play preview It's a special $10 preview tonight of Embedded, the Tim Robbins satire about the Iraq war. Jobsite Theater is ending its ninth season with a run of Embedded through Aug. 31. Attendees are encouraged to bring donated goods for care packages to be shipped to military units in Iraq and Afghanistan. Tonight's preview at 8 is at the Shimberg Playhouse-Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in downtown Tampa . Tickets will be $24.50 for the rest of the run. Night hike Beat the heat with an evening walk in the woods at the Moccasin Lake Nature Park, 2750 Park Trail Lane in Clearwater, starting at 8. This guided hike will look and listen for creatures that prowl the park at night — owls, bats, alligators, opossums, raccoons — you get the picture. Comic's Night Out It's open-mic night at Side Splitters for local comics who think they have what it takes to get on stage. It's a $10 cover to watch or perform (one drink at the bar — liquid courage! — and pizza is included). It starts at 7:30 at Side Splitters Comedy Club, 12938 N Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa.

Theater readings Two writers, Jordan Stovall and Jared O'Roark, come together to share their view of the world. Performers will reveal the minds of an 80-year-old stripper, a high-powered fashion designer and a 6-year-old boy in church in Descending Sideways: A Night of Theater Readings and Performances. Mike Allen The comedian heard on XM and Sirius Satellite Radio will be at Coconuts Comedy Club at 9 tonight at the Tradewinds Sandpiper Resort, 6000 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach. Admission is $15.

LOOP Fest 2008 Music Festival This free gathering has parties for both kids and Southern-rock fans. For the kids, there's a free fishing tournament from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Pier in downtown St. Petersburg. Music lovers will gather at Vinoy Park, 501 Fifth Ave NE, starting at 1 p.m. to hear Joe Rockstar, Exit 28, Stormbringer, Rebel Pride and headliner Southern Rock's Finest, which includes Dan Toler of the Allman Brothers Band, Phil Stokes of Pure Prairie League, Buzzy Meekins of Molly Hatchet and others.
