Wednesday's dance contest is crowd favorite at Chasco Fiesta

NEW PORT RICHEY — One of Chasco Fiesta's favorite events, the Dancing Under the Stars dance competition, highlights today's agenda, with Thursday's big event being the Rhythm & Bluesmasters concert, both in the Sims Park amphitheater, 6341 Bank St.

The Serenaders Big Band with Don Bailey will headline today's concert. The Tap N Dolls dance line will be featured during the show. Those who want to enter the dance contest can sign up on the spot. Gates open at 6 p.m. for the four-hour music event.

In addition, the Native American Festival and carnival midway will be open from 5 to 10 p.m.

Thursday's headliner is bluesman John Lee Hooker Jr., son of the legendary John Lee Hooker, with opening acts Damon Fowler and Time Bandits ($5 admission).

Chasco Fiesta continues through Sunday with nightly entertainment, including True Oldies Night on Friday and the Chasco Country Concert on Saturday, as well as the Chasco Fiesta Boat Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday.

6 to 10 p.m.: Dancing Under the Stars, live music by the Serenaders Big Band with Don Bailey; entertainment by Tap N Dolls; dance contest for audience

Registration is still open for the Chasco Children's Pageant, a contest for girls birth through age 18 and boys birth through age 8, to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Homewood Suites Hotel, 11115 U.S. 19, Port Richey. There are seven titles by age for girls and three for boys. All entrants win a trophy, sash, crown or other prizes.
