Consider this fair warning: If you're out in Ybor Saturday night and see a throng of zombies headed your way, it's not the Stella talking.
The Deadite Empire is putting on a zombie pub crawl that will have you shambling and moaning down Seventh Avenue all night.
The theme is western in honor of Cinco De Mayo. Think Clint Eastwood from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" but with his hunger for justice replaced by a hunger for brains.
Jesse Fisch, founder of the Deadite Empire -- Tampa Bay's first zombie social club -- promises this will be a "Dia de los Muertos extravaganza of gargantuan proportions." He could be dead on with that estimate. His last event, The St. Valentine's Day Massacre Pub Crawl, brought out huge crowds dressed as decomposing gangsters and flappers.
The zombie pub crawls are never boring, especially when it's time to hit the streets. The looks on people's faces are priceless when they see hordes of growling ghouls coming at them.
Expect lots of zombie-western themed music, shots, games and, of course, gunslinger zombie costumes. It's a silly idea but that's what makes it so much fun. It feels as though there's a huge gag being played on Tampa Bay and you're in on it. For once it's okay to go with the crowd and be a mindless drone driven by your thirst for liquor.
