At long last, we have our first acts announced for the 2012 Tampa Bay Rays Summer Concert Series. And two of them are familiar faces.
Rock groups ZZ Top and 3 Doors Down and country star Gretchen Wilson will all perform following the Rays and Miami Marlins game at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, June 17. That's three headliners for the price of one game ticket. That's an honest-to-goodness postgame music festival. Pretty wild, right?
As mildly disheartened as we are that two of these acts are repeat Rays concert series acts — ZZ Top played the Trop in 2010, 3 Doors Down in 2009 (and Wilson just played the Strawberry Festival) — we're curious about how on earth this will work. Some sort of unholy mashup of Sharp Dressed Man, Redneck Woman and Kryptonite, perhaps? Intriguing.
And as an added bonus: The first 10,000 kids through the gates that day get a free David Price jersey wallet. Don't say the Rays don't give you a solid value for your ticket.
The rest of the Summer Concert Series lineup will be unveiled later this month.
