For a decade, Sex and the City has defined style for generations of chic women. As a testament to the series' stylish appeal, SATC, which went off the air in 2004, has lived on in the hearts of addicted fans everywhere.
Now, four years after Sex's unwelcome demise, we're finally getting some closure thanks to Friday's release of Sex and the City, the movie. The beauty and style of SATC's four stars will no doubt serve up a happy ending. And this week, I've got a sneak peek at happiness ...
It's been said that no one had heard of Manolo Blahnik until Carrie. SATC's fearless sex columnist has undeniably fanned the flames for an abundance of trends, from giant flower adornments to sky-high, high-priced European shoes. Some of the looks in the movie may seem unwearable for the average woman, while others are sure to become stylish staples.
Carrie's leather-fingertip gloves appear odd, but given that they're a creation of SATC's favorite designer, Patricia Field, they may be destined to become the next big thing. They're available in black, nude, red and white for $32 at patriciafield.com.
In another scene, Carrie continues the lingerie-by-day trend, sporting a grey, one-piece cotton and silk romper from The Lake and Stars. The piece, reportedly hand-picked by Sarah Jessica Parker, features strips of silk in the front that fall open, lending a glimpse at the star's bra (another staple Carrie look — the exposed undergarment). The romper is available for $215 at figleaves.com.
Kim Cattrall's timeless sex appeal is partly due to a religious use of sunblock, namely Murad's Oil-free Sunblock SPF 30. Cattrall uses sunblock alone or under makeup daily to prevent signs of aging caused by environmental exposure. Packed with pure pomegranate extract, Murad's helps prevent free radical damage. It's available for $30 at murad.com.
Kristin Davis stays fresh thanks to the skin-care line AHAVA, from the Dead Sea in Israel. AHAVA's Dead Sea minerals, salts, and botanicals, including the Cleansing Milk and Mineral Eye Cream, help Davis maintain her signature healthy glow and fresh appearance.
Davis' look is complete with Alison Raffaele's Transparent Finish Powder ($26 at alisonraffaele.com). This talc- and paraben-free powder appears white; however it is actually transparent and ideal for all skin tones.
Finally, Mandy Lyons, the film's hair stylist, used the ProSilk curling iron and flat iron on Sarah Jessica Parker to create a bevy of beautiful 'dos that suit the star of Sex and her ever-evolving style.
