Amble into any thrift store, and you'll spot at least a few gainfully employed, funky young people rifling through the racks.

Thrift store shopping has really lost its stigma. It's still a great option for families short on cash, but it's also a treasure hunt for fashionable people who want to get out of the malls and Target aisles. Thrift store devotees know how to find designer brands and vintage gems mingled among the old T-shirts and VHS tapes.

Count in LifePath Hospice, which has thrift stores in South Tampa and Carrollwood. Recently, volunteers kept coming across so much good stuff in the donations, they realized they could host a fashion show. With a little creative styling, they put together looks to send down a runway Saturday at the Chapters Health PACE Center on Linebaugh Avenue. Pieces include Ann Taylor, Dooney & Bourke, Chicos, Louis Vuitton.

"We have so many great items," said spokeswoman Patty Klein. "The volunteers really wanted to showcase them in some way. We have good foot traffic, but it's just another way of getting the word out that we have these two thrift stores."

Proceeds from the clothing and ticket sales will benefit hospice programs in Hillsborough County, which support 1,200 patients nearing the end of life each day. LifePath Hospice also provides counseling to adults and children dealing with grief.

"Many of our services, we wouldn't be able to do without the proceeds that come from sales at the thrift store," said Klein. "People who donate, people who shop are supporting a really good cause."

Nineteen Hospice volunteers will model outfits. Expect to see cowboy boots, a red dress suit and matching bag and an animal print jacket. If you see something you like go down the runway, you'll have a chance to buy it after the show in a marketplace, along with other treasures from the two thrift stores.
