From faces to frocks, nude is being touted as one of the hottest colors for fall. And while skin that can be seen is a refreshing change from a matte, made-up visage, any woman can tell you that natural-looking makeup is easier said than done.
Enter tinted moisturizer, the easy way to achieve a flawless look without a face full of makeup, all the while protecting your skin from the harsh rays of Florida's abundant sunshine. This week, I've rounded up the top 5 tinted moisturizers on the market, from drugstore darlings to boutique-brand bests.
Physician's Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer
Serving up the kind of generous coverage and smooth application that I would have expected from a much pricier product, Physician's Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer tops my list. Available at local drugstores for $14.95 for 1 ounce, this TM bears the Skin Cancer Foundation seal of approval, offering broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection paired with breathable coverage that somehow manages to conceal imperfections effortlessly.
Sue Devitt SpaComplexion Hydrating Marine Minerals Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
In a word, velvet. Sue Devitt's Mineral Tinted Moisturizer is so smooth, it could give Barry White a run for his money. Mineral ingredients, SPF 15 coverage and physical sunblocks titanium dioxide and zinc oxide make this a must for those who care as much about what they put on their bodies as what they put in them. Not as moisturizing as the other products on my love list, this TM is ideal for oily skin. And since where oil goes, blemishes often follow, the not-so-sheer coverage of this TM covers up imperfections very nicely to boot. Get it for $40 for 1.35 ounces at suedevittbeauty.com or at Ulta, 12715 Citrus Park Drive, Tampa.
E.L.F. Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
At the bargain price of a buck, I can hardly vouch for the ingredients in E.L.F.'s Tinted Moisturizer. But I can tell you that great coverage, a nice scent, SPF 15 and a handy little container that would be oh-so-easy to travel with landed E.L.F. a surprising spot on my list. Plus, this TM is available in seven shades that range from a creamy ivory to a deep toffee. Get it for $1 at eyeslipsface.com.
Tarte's Smooth Operator SPF 20
This medium-coverage, tinted moisturizer is free of oils, parabens, synthetic fragrances and phthalates, but rich in skin-saving ingredients such as chamomile and vitamins A, C and E. Available in 10 shades at SPF 20, Tarte's Smooth Operator is just that. Get it for $36 for 1.7 ounces at Sephora or at tartecosmetics.com.
Oil of Olay Total Effects UV Moisturizer + Touch of Foundation
Those looking for light coverage with a generous dose of hydration will adore Total Effects UV Moisturizer + Touch of Foundation, available at local drugstores for $18.99 for 1.7 ounces. With an SPF 15 rating, this TM offers very light coverage paired with the anti-aging benefits of the Total Effects 7-in-1 anti-aging product line. The pleasant scent is a plus, but the rich hydration isn't ideally suited for those with oily skin. And while the hue was ideal for my medium skin tone, the lack of choices — there's only one shade — is limiting for fair and dark skin tones.
