Get wrapped up in spring's hottest chains

This spring, accessories continue to take over fashion, making last season's basic white tee new again. With multi-chain necklaces leading the charge, little black dresses and pastel tanks alike become of-the-moment when bound in layers upon layers of silver, gold, pearls, charms and the like.

If you're like me, you're as likely to pick up a beauty product at a high-end beauty boutique as you are at the drugstore. And when it comes to style, my M.O. is much the same — I love to mix affordable pieces with luxury must-haves, saving sometimes and splurging others.

If I'm really, really good this year, a stunning multi-chain bib necklace from Donna Karan could be mine; it's available for $2,495 exclusively online at net-a-porter.com. But because I'll probably never be that angelic, next on my wishlist is another pricey (but cheap by comparison) stunner from Vera Wang. Available at Neiman Marcus at International Plaza for $795, the Dragonfly Chain Necklace boasts gun metal gray chains complemented by faceted crystals in the shape of a dragonfly. I'm bitten — er, smitten.

Tom Zauke's multi-layered necklace combines layers of black metal and gold chains with gold fringe and small pendants (look closely and you'll notice a skull pendant). Stylebop.com calls this piece an "upgrade for everything," and I couldn't agree more. It's $600 at stylebop.com.

Blu Bijoux's Silver Necklace features silver plated chains paired with gray chains and crystals. Throw in a pearl, charm and ribbon and this 36‑inch necklace is on my list of affordable must-haves. Get it for $100 at maxandchloe.com.

Short on length but long on appeal, Adele Marie's silver, nickel-free hammered necklace may not go as low as some of my other picks, but it's oh-so-high on style. With this necklace on, I'd hammer out style all over this town. Get it for $50 at figleaves.com.

If you just want to take the chain gang trend out for a quick spin, opt for an ultra-affordable multi-chain necklace from Arden B (2223 N West Shore Blvd.), just $18. Look closely and you'll notice that layers of gold chains meet a delicate pearl chain at the neckline.

While at International Plaza, head to Guess and grab a fun and funky spin on the classic multi-chain necklace while the getting is good. Suede accents pair with black and blue beads plus gold chains in a piece that is boho chic. Wear it to add a splash of color to your favorite neutral tee or tank, and it's just $10.

I know plenty of women who pair their Christian Louboutin heels with threads from Forever 21, the stylish girl's go-to store for budget-friendly clothes and accessories. And Forever 21 didn't disappoint when I went looking for chain necklaces, and found a long gold necklace, with layers upon layers of chains that extend up to 40 inches long for just $6.80.
