Dr. Christina Paylan, a board certified cosmetic surgeon, founded Tampa Bay’s first — and only — green spa, Spa 360. The medical spa approaches eco-consciousness from every angle, boasting a bevy of organic spa services in an earth-friendly atmosphere.

When Christina Paylan founded Spa 360 last May, she aimed to create an eco-chic destination that would pamper spa patrons and the planet.

That's the mantra upon which Paylan, a cosmetic surgeon, founded Tampa Bay's first — and only — green spa, Spa 360. This medical spa approaches eco-consciousness from every angle, boasting a bevy of organic spa services in an eco-friendly atmosphere.

It's so green, in fact, that even the cleaning supplies won't dirty this eco-spa's tree-huggin' ideology — the spa is maintained and sanitized with organic products.

Located on Kennedy Boulevard across from WTVT-Fox 13, Spa 360 (healyoursenses.com) is making news in its own right; catching the attention of locals committed to an organic lifestyle as well as average Tampa Bay residents who find the idea of organic services appealing.

That's exactly the kind of reaction Paylan was counting on when she opened Spa 360. Paylan believes that while not all consumers have the time to make green choices in day-to-day life, all can reap the benefits of organic spa treatments to regain lost energy and vitality.

"We want to percolate the message of an organic and health conscious living through the entire Tampa Bay community," says Paylan. "There are no other centers in Tampa Bay that offer a comprehensive, organic, post-surgical healing and recovery."

Thanks to Paylan's keen green eye, the spa has seen an increasing demand for organic spa offerings including facials, massages, body wraps and beyond.

Organic skin care services, ranging in price from $95 to $175, all begin with complimentary skin care consultations to diagnose and treat complexion concerns such as acne, rosacea and hyper-pigmentation. Results based skin care comes courtesy of natural ingredients, such as in the Avocado Lift, a proprietary mask crafted from organic avocado, naturally rich in Vitamins E, C, and B6.

Paylan also says the spa's massages are a personal must; modalities range from Turkish Deep Tissue to Hot Stone. Consumers can also opt for organic body wraps, such as the Pomegranate Cranberry Body Wrap, an infusion of antioxidant-rich pomegranate juices, organic whole cranberries and pure cane sugar that leaves skin smooth and radiant from head to toe.

Sure, your friends may be jealous of that post-Spa 360 glow, but rest assured, Mother Nature totally approves.

BEAUTY Tip of the day

Lather, rinse, don't repeat

My hair stylist, Kelly Alexander at Tribeca Color Salon in South Tampa, has tried to ween me from daily shampooings for more than a year now. She says breaking the habit will yield to longer, stronger, less frizzy tresses. "The grease from your head is probably the best conditioner your hair could ever have," she swears. Kelly says blow drying at the root after washing and pulling back day-old bangs will keep the grease under control. If hair is smelly, she recommends a good rinse and a dab of light conditioner to de-stink. And when you do shampoo, she says, focus on washing just the scalp, not the hair. — Helen Anne Travis hatravis@tampabay.com
