Nude, one of spring's hippest hues, also happens to be among the most wearable. And what better place to wear this color trend than on your feet? Nude sandals naturally extend legs, making them look longer and leaner — not to mention that nude complements any color. Pair nude shoes with nude polish for a beach-worthy look that works anywhere the season takes you.
Thanks to a ladylike ankle strap and ultra-high heel (measuring in at 5 inches); the BCBGeneration Anja Platform Sandal in nude leather ($117.95 at Nordstrom International) looks perfect with sundresses and spring suits. Pair Anja with Chanel's Nail Vernis lacquer in Inattendu, a sheer and creamy shade of pinkish-nude; get it for $23 at chanel.com.
You know Gwen Stefani has vocal chops and iconic style, but did you know she also makes rockin' shoes? Well, maybe she doesn't personally make them, but Stefani's L.A.M.B. collection boasts some of my favorite finds in the shoe department, including a pair of nude heels that I picked up a few years back, and still wear religiously. This season, try "Kam" from the L.A.M.B. collection, an open-toe sling back with a stacked stiletto heel that's high in height (5 5/8 inches) and high on style; get 'em for $295 at zappos.com. Pair these pumps with "naked" lacquer from Deborah Lippmann's Spring/Summer 2011 nail color collection ($26 at Nordstrom).
For affordability, another blond pop star is my go-to girl. Jessica Simpson's collection of shoes, apparel, accessories and beyond is on trend and priced within reason. Try these nude patent "Endo" sandals, with a whopping 5 1⁄4-inch heel, and available at department stores and zappos.com for $79. Pair 'em with Forever 21's Love & Beauty polish in "Light as Air," less than $3 at Forever 21 stores and online.
I discovered these gold-studded Vince Camuto nudies ($118) while browsing the spring offerings at Macy's. Elegance meets edgy in these peep-toe nude pumps crafted of leather with a 5-inch heel. (Yes, heels are getting much higher — it's not your imagination.) Pair these puppies with Cheeky Monkey's "No Bra" polish, a light neutral beige that is 3 free (meaning free of chemicals including dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde and toluene) and sold online for $15 at cheekymonkeycosmetics.com.
Spikes, apparently another spring must, also appear on Christian Louboutin's more aspirationally priced Pik Pik Spikes ($955 at Barneys.com) These ultra-studded patent leather sling backs boast a peep toe, and, of course, that famous red sole. Pair it with "Going Nude, Eh?" — a limited edition, oh-so-neutral nail lacquer from Sephora by OPI; get it for $9.50 at Sephora.
