Three beauty treatments to save face in a hurry

You’ll feel like glowing after giving your face the five-star treatment.

You’ll feel like glowing after giving your face the five-star treatment.

Last week, Beverly Hills' mouthiest, and leggiest, "housewife," Brandi Glanville, tweeted pictures of her bare and very red face after partaking in laser treatments, reportedly to remedy Melasma. But while Glanville's on-air persona takes things to extremes, there's no need for you and me to get overly aggressive in the quest for great skin. This week, I've got the scoop on three treatments that promise to improve skin with little to no downtime, all tried and tested by yours truly.

Hydrafacial

Downtime: None.

Hydrafacial is a brand name for hydradermabrasion, a non-crystal version of microdermabrasion that cleanses, exfoliates and resurfaces the skin with hydrating and nourishing treatment serums. The Hydrafacial is a next-generation microdermabrasion treatment that combines exfoliation with painless extraction and deep pore cleansing to refine and resurface the skin.

Unlike a the classic microdermabrasion treatment, hydradermabrasion is richly moisturizing and renewing thanks to the use of "active performance serums" custom selected based on clients' skin types and skin care concerns. While my skin glowed after just one treatment, a series of six weekly treatments is recommended.

Dermapen

Downtime: A few hours to a few days, depending on intensity of treatment.

Needling skin to encourage healing is a treatment that's been used for ages. But today's "needle" is quite different than the one used hundreds of years ago, thanks to Dermapen, the brand name of a microscopic needling device used to battle wrinkles, stretch marks and acne scars.

Similar to derma rollers, Dermapen calls upon micro penetration of the skin to stimulate collagen. Needles can be adjusted for depth of penetration meaning downtime ranges from almost none to several days. And while you may recall seeing another reality star, Kim Kardashian, tweeting dramatic post-treatment pics of her on-air experience with Dermapen, those of us looking for results rather than ratings can opt for a less intense yet equally effective Dermapen session.

Clear + Brilliant

Downtime: One hour to one day, depending on individual's skin reaction.

Clear + Brilliant is a type of fractional resurfacing that promises radiance with no downtime, save a few hours of post-treatment redness. Appropriate for all skin types — from Type 1, those highly sensitive to the sun whose skin seems to always burn and never tan, up to Type 6, those whose skin is not sensitive to the sun at all and never burns — Clear + Brilliant is ideally suited to treating the face, neck and chest in three to five treatments, each about a month apart.

The goal of this laser treatment is simple: to prevent and correct the visible signs of aging with very little downtime, making it possible for real people to improve their skin without the type of downtime Real Housewives can afford. This, I suppose, means you'll have to come up with something else to tweet about.
