Tinted moisturizer the next nude thing

From faces to frocks, nude is being touted as one of the hottest colors for fall. And while skin that can be seen is a refreshing change from a matte, made-up visage, any woman can tell you that natural-looking makeup is easier said than done.

Enter tinted moisturizer, the easy breezy way to achieve a flawless look without a face full of makeup, all the while protecting the skin you're in from Florida's abundant and seasonless sunshine. This week, I've rounded up the top five tinted moisturizers on the market, from drugstore darlings to boutique brand bests.

Love it! Physician's Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer

Serving up the kind of generous coverage and smooth application that I would have expected from a much pricier product, Physician's Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer tops my list. Available at local drugstores for $14.95 for 1 ounce, it bears the Skin Cancer Foundation seal of approval, offering up broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection paired with breathable coverage that conceals imperfections effortlessly.

Love it! Sue Devitt SpaComplexion Hydrating Marine Minerals Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15

In a word, velvet. Mineral ingredients, SPF 15 coverage and physical sunblocks titanium dioxide and zinc oxide make Sue Devitt's Mineral Tinted Moisturizer a must for those who care as much about what they put on their bodies as what they put in 'em. Not as moisturizing as the other products on my love list, this super-smooth product is ideal for oily skin. Since where oil goes blemishes often follow, it's good that the coverage is sufficient to conceal imperfections very nicely. Get it for $40 for 1.35 ounces at suedevittbeauty.com or at Ulta Citrus Park.

Love it! E.L.F. Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15

For the bargain price of one buck, I can hardly vouch for the ingredients in E.L.F.'s Tinted Moisturizer, but I can tell you that great coverage, a nice scent, SPF 15 and a handy little container that would be oh-so-easy to travel with landed E.L.F. a surprising spot on my "love it!" list. Plus, it's available in seven shades that range from a creamy Ivory to a deep Toffee. Get it for $1 at eyeslipsface.com.

Love it! Tarte's Smooth Operator SPF 20

This medium-coverage, tinted moisturizer is free of oils, parabens, synthetic fragrances and phthalates but rich in skin-saving ingredients such as chamomile and vitamins A, C and E. Available in 10 shades with an SPF 20 rating, Tarte's Smooth Operator is just that. Get it for $36 for 1.7 ounces at local Sephora stores or online at tartecosmetics.com.

Love it! Oil of Olay Total Effects UV Moisturizer + Touch of Foundation

Those looking for light coverage with a generous dose of hydration will adore Total Effects UV Moisturizer + Touch of Foundation, available at local drugstores for $18.99 for 1.7 ounces. With an SPF 15 rating, it offers up very light coverage paired with the anti-aging benefits of the Total Effects 7-in-1 product line. The pleasant scent is a plus, but the rich hydration isn't ideal for those with oily skin. While the hue was ideal for my medium skin tone, the lack of choices — there's only one shade — is limiting for fair and dark skin tones.
