Who's it for? Anyone who has stood in a busy supermarket trying to decode nutrition labels
What's it about? The latest entry in the Eat This Not That! series from the editors of Men's Health magazine is a fast, easy way to make smart choices. Loaded with color photos, the book is svelte enough (a half-inch thick, and 6 1/2 inches square) to carry along.
• Funyuns, at 140 calories for 13 pieces, are a better nutritional bet than Multigrain Tostitos at 150 calories for 8 chips.
• Dean's Guacamole contains less than 2 percent avocado. If you want the real thing, make your own or buy Wholly Guacamole.
• Mama Celeste Original Pizza uses no real cheese. It's imitation mozzarella. Kashi pizzas, however, have real cheese and a fiber boost thanks to flaxseed in the crust.
• Quaker Natural Low Fat Granola with Raisins has 315 calories per cup, and more sugar than a pack of Peanut M&M's. But a cup of Fiber One Raisin Bran Clusters gives you the sweetness of raisins and only 170 calories per cup (and more than twice the fiber of the granola).
Worth buying? Definitely. You can't have our copy.
