Weight Watchers brings its services, products to retail shops

You may have noticed something new in local shopping centers: Weight Watchers retail shops.

Unlike the traditional Weight Watchers outlets in shopping centers, which are open mostly for regularly scheduled meetings, these new and remodeled shops are staffed continuously during regular business hours, including nights and weekends. The shops also have a contemporary design to attract customers in busy, high traffic areas.

Weight Watchers is testing the concept in the Tampa Bay area and in St. Louis, Mo. By early October, 16 of the redesigned centers will be open in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Lakeland and Port Richey.

Drop by to learn about and sign up for weight-loss programs, attend Weight Watchers meetings and buy products such as smoothies, snack foods and cookbooks. Members can weigh in discreetly at their convenience rather than only during regularly scheduled meetings.

Go to or call toll-free 1-800-651-6000 for more information about the new centers and the program.
