MacDinton's Irish Pub, the wildly popular bar in South Tampa, will open its new location in St. Petersburg just in time for the new year.

MacDinton's St. Petersburg, with an entrance along First Avenue N in the 200 block, is scheduled to open Dec. 30 in the Jannus Live entertainment complex, then will ring in 2012 with Cheap Trick performing at Jannus Live. Concert tickets are $100 and include open bar from 8 p.m. to midnight. But for people not going to the show, MacDinton's will have free cover, a champagne toast at midnight and a DJ from midnight to 3 a.m. The bar will stream the concert live.

The Jannus Live location allows the bar to partner with concerts in the courtyard while expanding its own parties, live shows and charity events, said Barry O'Connor, who owns MacDinton's with Marcus Winters and Sean James.

"We've been looking in St. Pete for over a year,'' he said. "Our main focus was somewhere close to downtown with outdoor seating. There were only a couple of places.''

The St. Pete MacDinton's will serve traditional Irish fare starting in mid January and have live music seven days a week. Like the S Howard Avenue location, it will throw a huge St. Patrick's Day party and serve as an official viewing site for U.S. soccer events.

But, unlike the SoHo location, it has ample parking in nearby garages and in lots.

MacDinton's started the build-out in November after plans fell through to put SPiN Galactic, a table tennis club, in the space. It will have a "newer and better'' look than its South Tampa sister and employ 40 people, O'Connor said.

The bar was scheduled to open this Friday, but that was pushed back a week to ensure everything was finished. It'll open with a special called Crazy Happy Hour, a crowd favorite in Tampa. For $10, customers will get all-you-can-drink draft beer, house wine and select liquors from 6 to 8 p.m.
