I'm looking for a Jell-O candy recipe that I used to make with my children. It was dense, cut into squares and rolled in powdered sugar. Does anyone have this recipe?

JoAnn Sanderson, Temple Terrace

Sue Ondich of Seminole shares a recipe for pastel marshmallows. Hopefully this is the recipe JoAnn remembers. It's a fun recipe to make, especially with children. A few things worth mentioning: Generously butter the wax paper (I found it easier to do so before putting into the pan). When removing the wax paper from the Jell-O, just dampening the paper did not work for me. I wet a paper towel and placed it over the wax paper for almost 5 minutes and still had difficulty removing it. I eventually used a butter knife to coax the marshmallows away from the paper. I also used a butter knife to cut the marshmallows. Once the Jell-O has thickened, a hand mixer will do a better job than a stand mixer. Don't be alarmed when the mixture turns to a creamy color, just be sure to incorporate all of the mixture so it is uniform in color. You may have to mix longer than 5 minutes to achieve the soft peaks. Use any fruit flavor Jell-O you enjoy. Kids will definitely have fun rolling the squares in the sugar.

Nadina Piehl of Ridge Manor loves the "killer" dipping sauce at Café Cibo in St. Petersburg. She hopes a reader has re-created it at home and is willing to share the recipe. . . . Largo resident Sal Cascio would like the Starbucks banana bread recipe.

>>easy

Pastel Marshmallows

1 (3-ounce) package Jell-O gelatin, any fruit flavor

⅔ cup boiling water

1 cup sugar

3 tablespoons light corn syrup

Confectioners' sugar

Dissolve Jell-O in boiling water in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in sugar until dissolved. (Do not boil.) Blend in corn syrup. Chill until slightly thickened.

While mixture is chilling, line an 8-inch square pan with wax paper; grease with butter and set aside. Beat gelatin mixture at highest speed of electric mixer until soft peaks form, about 5 minutes. Pour into prepared pan. Let stand in refrigerator overnight.

Dust a large board with confectioners' sugar and invert pan onto sugar. To remove wax paper from Jell-O, dampen surface and let stand for a few minutes, then peel off paper. Dust top of Jell-O with sugar. Cut Jell-O into 1-inch squares. Roll cut edges in sugar.

Makes about 6 dozen.
