Hail to the chef

The Cordon D'Or culinary awards honored cookbook authors, culinary teachers and chefs Saturday at the Don CeSar Beach Resort and Spa in St. Pete Beach. Tom Pritchard, right, executive chef at Salt Rock Grill in Indian Shores and several other Pinellas County restaurants, was named to the "Florida Culinary Hall of Fame" by the local organization. Masters of ceremonies were TV personalities Tom Wilkins, left, and Michelle Phillips, second from left, whose mother, Jan Phillips of Parrish, joined her for the ceremony. The Cordon D'Or international awards have been held for several years but this year were expanded to include Florida honorees. Also honored were Rosa Fiorelli Winery in Bradenton and Mote Marine in Sarasota for its sustainability efforts. (For a list of winners, go to cordondorcuisine.com.) Also held at the resort over the weekend was the third annual Tampa Bay Wine & Food Festival. The festival drew a large crowd to the beach to sip wine and sample food from area restaurants, and raise funds for Abilities Foundation and Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation. Celebrity chef Josh "JAG" Garcia, who was a contestant on Season 3 of The Next Food Network Star, was one of the participants at the festival.
