GrillSmith is closing its restaurant at the Westfield Brandon mall because of disappointing sales. Sunday is its last day.
The Tampa-based chain said the nearly 5-year-old restaurant was underperforming at a time when other GrillSmith restaurants were doing well. Sales are up 4 percent so far in 2014, building on a 6.1 percent increase in 2013 and a 4 percent increase in 2012.
GrillSmith is seeking sites for new restaurants in St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Orlando. Its other area restaurants will remain open in New Tampa, South Tampa, Carrollwood, Clearwater and Lakeland.
Established in 2004, GrillSmith is an affiliate of Front Burner Brands, a restaurant management company headquartered in Tampa.
