Eastern Hillsborough is well known for U-pick strawberries and blueberries, but another fruit is in season: muscadine grapes. The large, thick-skinned fruit can be found at Thompson's Nursery and Vineyard, 1104 S Miller Road, Valrico. For $1.99 a pound, you can pick from several varieties on more than 5 acres. The vineyard is owned by husband and wife Randy and LaRay Thompson. They sell already-picked grapes, peach trees and other produce as well as LaRay's homemade jellies. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays, weather permitting, throughout August.
