The Food Network series The Best Thing I Ever Ate inspired a recent online discussion about favorite dishes at Tampa Bay restaurants.
Dozens of dishes were mentioned on the Florida board of chowhound.com — fish spread at Ted Peter's, chicken liver pear mousse pate at Mise en Place, barbecue pork bahn mi at Saigon Deli.
But two dishes that weren't mentioned — the 22-ounce strip steak and the peanut butter truffle at Bern's Steakhouse — will actually be featured on the show later this year.
A Food Network crew was at Bern's Wednesday to shoot an episode for the series, dubbed "Old School" (you don't get much more old school than Bern's).
The prime-time series features chefs talking about their favorite dishes at various restaurants around the country. Alexandra Guarnaschelli loves the strip steak, while Sunny Anderson favors the peanut butter truffle in the dessert room.
The crew planned to interview Bern's owner David Laxer, chef de cuisine Habteab Hamde and executive pastry chef Kim Yelvington.
The chefs weren't there, though. Their gushing happens in a studio.
