While BayWalk languishes across the street, the Plaza Tower and Courtyard shopping area just off Beach Drive in St. Petersburg has been enjoying a renaissance of late, including a new fast-casual Asian restaurant that opened on Friday.
Sab Cafe is offering spring rolls, rice bowls, noodle bowls and an assortment of appetizers and gluten-free items. It also has a selection of beer, wine and sake.
The cafe will share a courtyard with the Ale and the Witch, a burgeoning craft beer spot, and the Wine Madonna. Live music is scheduled most weekends at the Ale and the Witch, and all three places offer outdoor seating to enjoy it.
The courtyard, at 111 Second Ave. NE, also has a sign up at the former Zapata's Mexican restaurant promising that a new Mex place called El Metate is coming soon. And around the corner at 221 First St. NE, a restaurant is planned called Rollbotto Sushi. It's touting itself as a fast-casual place, with an ordering experience similar to a Subway sandwich shop with several choices offered for crafting a custom roll.
