New Southern cuisine restaurant opens in Tampa

Knife & Co. in Tampa

Knife & Co. has opened at 912 W Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. The brainchild of Ron Stewart, Gary and Amy Moran, and Jay Stewart, the restaurant features Southern cuisine that falls under the tagline of "a rustic, artisanal experience." Décor includes an 1890s pulpit used as a hostess stand, reclaimed black walnut lumber used to build tables and the wine cellar, ebony seating, a concrete bar and a large communal table. For more information, call (813) 251-5210.

Columbia starts distilling

The Columbia owner Richard Gonzmart has just launched a private label spirits line honoring first and second generation family members of the 106-year-old restaurant: Don Casimiro Classic Silver Rum named for the "Don" of the Hernandez-Gonzmart family, and Chacho Bourbon Whiskey, named for Evelio "Chacho" Hernandez, the youngest son of Casimiro Hernandez Sr. The liquors can be tasted in three new cocktails unveiled at the restaurants (an El Floridita daiquiri, a mint julep and in the Chacho Manhattan), as well as in several new dishes at the restaurants. The liquors are also sold in the Columbia gift shops in Ybor City and in Sarasota.
