Noted restaurateur has new place up and running

Boca Kitchen opens in South Tampa

Gordon Davis' Boca Kitchen Bar Market opened on Monday at 901 W Platt St. in Tampa for dinner with lunch to be added in March.

The menu went online Friday, and there are some exciting possibilities: blistered shishito peppers (the last time Tampa saw these was at James DeVito's Raw Bar Sushi) a Newcastle beer float with "beernut brittle" and a "staff meal," unexplained yet intriguing. Boca also has a laudable lineup of cheeses thus far.

Davis is known in Tampa food circles for his Ceviche restaurants, which he sold in 2008, and for the wildly innovative Ciro's Speakeasy and Supper Club on Howard Avenue. Boca is envisioned as a farm-to-table concept featuring locally grown produce and Gulf of Mexico seafood.

Banh mi headed downtown

Thuy Le has made a name for herself at her Thuy Café at 5944 34th St. N in St. Petersburg for her range of boba teas and 10 styles of banh mi sandwiches. She's bringing her vibrant Vietnamese aesthetic to a second location downtown, moving into the 400 block of Central Avenue. She aims to expand her menu, with a range of pho, fresh rolls and other hearty dishes. The opening date hasn't been announced.
