The much-anticipated downtown St. Petersburg outpost of World of Beer will hold its soft opening Monday, Nov. 21. This newest franchise of the beer bar that has caught on like wildfire opens at the site of short-lived Paddy Burke's at 100 Fourth St. S.
Pete's Wood Fired Pizza is still a few months away from opening in the adjacent space. World of Beer will host a private opening part from 5 to 8 p.m., after which the public is welcome to peruse the more than 500 beers.
This World of Beer marks the second location in St. Petersburg, the first opened at 5226 Fourth St. N in November 2009. There are 15 locations in Florida (plus one in Columbus, Ohio), with another 12 franchises gearing up nationally for launches.
While Pete's Wood Fired Pizza was supposed to launch concurrently with WOB, this doesn't mean there aren't notable new noshes nearby (WOB is a beer-only concept). The Avenue opened on Friday, Nov. 11, at the site of the former Buona Vita at 330 First Ave. S in St. Petersburg. Buona Vita owner Allan Galeano remains at the helm, joined by new fellow owners Chris Dorsey, Stephen Schrutti and Jason Levine.
The charming space has undergone a major makeover, and the new food concept is burgers — with more than 15 variations from which to choose (ahi, Buffalo, lamb, Cajun crabcake). In addition to burgers and their accouterments, the Avenue will offer a late-night breakfast menu Thursday through Saturday nights from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., welcome news for downtown St. Petersburg's post-club hungries.
