A pushpin that leaves no hole

If you've ever needed to post something on a bulletin board, but you hated to put a pushpin or thumbtack through it, your troubles are over. MagTacks, from OXO, are a magnet and pushpin in one. Press the pin side into the corkboard, then hold items to it with the magnetic cap. When not in use the pin stores safely inside the top of the magnetic cap. In stainless steel or assorted colors; $6.99 for a set of eight, at oxo.com or toll-free 1-800-545-4411.

Recycling sites for compact bulbs

Someone asked the other day where to recycle compact fluorescent bulbs. Don't just throw them in the trash because they contain minute amounts of mercury. Home Depot has a national recycling program. More information and other recycling sites: Go to earth911.org or epa.gov/bulbrecycling.

Ode to our bungalows

Bungalow magazine has discovered St. Petersburg's Historic Kenwood neighborhood, otherwise known as the city's bungalow belt. The fall issue features stories on the neighborhood, the home of Tom and Christine Bauer and the Craftsman House gallery. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Craftsman House, at 2955 Central Ave., will hold a "release party" to celebrate with music, food, fun and copies of the magazine for sale; all welcome.

Clean green

Learn to clean your house "green," using natural cleaning products rather than harsh chemicals. From 7 to 8 p.m. Sept. 10, the education staff at the Brooker Creek Preserve will offer a presentation on "green" cleaning. Free, but register at (727) 453-6800. The center is at 3940 Keystone Road, Tarpon Springs.

Fiestaware says Merry Christmas

Ever-popular Fiestaware china will introduce a line of Christmas items in September, with a festive Christmas tree imprinted on an ivory background. Choose from 9-inch luncheon plates, bread-and-butter plates, mugs, serving pieces and a collectible ornament, from $20 to $36. Mix and match with the classic Fiesta solid colors. We can picture the mugs as great gift items, ditto a stack of the bread-and-butter plates as a prelude to a tapas party.
