let the light peek through

Let tealight candles flicker through the holes in these Peekaboo earthenware candleholders that hang from 2 feet of nickel-plated steel rings. Isn't your patio calling out for one or more of these? They're by J. Schatz; 7 inches high, 5 inches wide; in red, yellow, aqua, orange, olive, white; $95 each. The same Peekaboo holders are available as electrical pendant or track lighting for $235. Order toll-free at 1-866-344-5267; visit www.jschatz.com.

Get a handle on your recliner

Say goodbye to that wooden handle on your La-Z-Boy recliner, and say hello to this sleek new brushed-metal handle. You can add it to an existing chair for about $50, or buy a new chair with this handle. Maybe the swooping shape would have made Dr. Frasier Crane happier with Dad's beat-up recliner in that sleek Seattle condo.

We're making treats at home

Cocooning will continue, housewares manufacturers predict. Sales of small appliances fell by 10 percent in the three months ending in March compared with a year ago. But sales of ice cream makers are up 8 percent, and purchases of fondue sets and popcorn poppers have risen also. This suggests people are saving money by staying home and making their own snacks.

Clean with every flush

To keep the toilet bowl clean in between regular cleanings, you could, of course, just wield the toilet brush. But it's more fun to use Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel. A little device like a cookie press deposits a disc of cleaning gel under the toilet bowl rim. With every flush a small amount of gel coats the surface of the bowl to clean it and release a fresh scent. A package of six plus the gel tube applicator is $4.19 at stores such as Target and Wal-Mart.
