The living area of the Los Angeles home of television journalist Suzanne Marques and producer Robert Dourisboure unifies a vibrant color palette with vivid artwork and crisp white accents.
If you found yourself watching the Academy Awards ceremony last Sunday wondering what kind of fabulous homes the stars live in, High Style (Chronicle Books, 256 pages, $60) is the book for you.
Los Angeles interior designers Ron Woodson and Jaime Rummerfield fill this lavish book of photographs with examples of the style they call "Modage," as in modern plus vintage — punched with plenty of Hollywood glamor.
They take readers through the steps of renovating and decorating a serene, old-world kitchen for Kelly Preston and John Travolta. A whole section of the book is devoted to their design for Courtney Love's Beverly Hills estate, all richly flowered textiles, fine art and spectacular art deco and art nouveau antiques — not a ripped fishnet stocking in sight.
Woodson and Rummerfield, who are pretty glam themselves, even offer tips on design basics and repurposing flea market and estate sale finds. But the main attraction of High Style is its peek inside a world where style is everything and money — sigh — is no object.
