Man-made fire logs designed to burn cleaner than wood

If you're not up to toting firewood indoors, consider burning some of the man-made logs that are clean and simple to use.

Duraflame just launched a new fire log, Gold, that burns four hours. Its elegant gold packaging adds a holiday touch, making it an ideal gift for any hostess on your party rounds. The new fire logs are available at local grocers (see their product locator for all retailers and are sold in a four-log pack for a suggested retail price of $24.99 or as a single log for $5 to $6 per log.

Duraflame fire logs are made from renewable resources and burn 80 percent cleaner than wood, according to the company.

Enviro-Log goes a step further, making its logs from 100 percent recycled waxed cardboard. The 5-pound log burns up to three hours, according to the company.

As a major waxed cardboard recycler in the United States, Enviro-Log enables its partners, grocery and retail stores, to divert their used waxed cardboard from landfills to Enviro-Log, where it can be converted into clean-burning fire logs. Enviro-Log adds nothing to the waxed cardboard to manufacture its fire logs. The company then provides the finished product back to its partners to be sold from their store shelves.

To date, Enviro-Log says it has partnered with more than 40 companies to reduce their environmental impact by diverting more than 100 million pounds of wax from landfills. Prices for the logs are $14.99 to $22.99; learn more about the product at
