On this Flag Day, we hope that all the red, white and blue bunting adorning your neighborhood is snapping in a lively, sunny breeze and that it's a great day for both you and Old Glory.

Palm Harbor's own Lori P. makes a request on her 80-year-old father's behalf. Lori's mom, his wife for almost 60 years, is ill in a nursing home, and for a while Dad was at loose ends. Then he started a project to enclose a small bathroom, which helped a lot. The room's shower and sink are in, but a urinal will be a better fit than a toilet. Please, folks, check your urinal supply, should you have one, and if you can spare one, call (727) 458-7004. And Lori, let the rest of us know whenever Dad finds time on his hands again. (Just kidding, Dad!)

Laverne Myers would like to swap a 6-foot chaise in great condition for a large oak rocker with arms, a 17-inch depth and a seat that's 17 inches above the floor. Please call (813) 837-5751.

Dennis Treise's doctor has suggested that a recumbent exercycle might provide good exercise for Dennis' back. Since he has no guarantee the doc's advice will work, Dennis would like to secure a machine he could try out. He'll gladly pick it up. Please call (727) 546-1359.

Joan Bichsel is looking for a 35mm handheld slide viewer, not a projector, that she will pick up. She is putting up for adoption a like-new, sturdy metal three-tier printer stand, which will need to be picked up. Please call (727) 531-9453.

The McCrearys are trying to replace their son's 1962 St. Pete High yearbook, which was destroyed in a fire. While a student there, he was captain of the swim team and was voted "most friendly." Please call (727) 398-5277.

Shirley Smith of Clearwater would like to give a Yamaha organ, model 4151, to a church, nursing home, retirement home or anyone willing to pick it up. If you are interested, please write to Shirley in care of this column, and we'll see that your letter reaches her.

Thank-you notes

Dunedin's Margie Hooge recently requested the services of someone who could fix her music box. So far the only phone calls she has received are from other folks with broken music boxes, hoping to learn if she found help. When a repair person shows up, there will be much work to be done.

St. Petersburg's Vicki thanks everyone who answered her call for border bricks. Lots of folks who responded to the request live in North Pinellas, so Vicki's planning to pick up bricks there when she can coordinate it with other errands, to save on gas.

The item about recycled men's clothing that appeared in the May 31 column contained a couple of errors. Though Goodwill stores and donation sites accept clothing for resale, and use the proceeds to support their services, they are not actively seeking clothing donations as such. Also, the name of the contact person at Goodwill was incorrect. If you have questions about programs, please direct them instead to Chris Ward, marketing and media relations manager, at (727) 450-5211.

Send requests to Reader Exchange, Floridian, St. Petersburg Times, P.O. Box 1121, St. Petersburg 33731 or e-mail cole@sptimes.com. Requests will be accepted only by mail or e-mail. This is an exchange column, so we will not run items that are for sale.
